Great hospital with friendly staff including the MDs. I've received exceptional services in various departments. I was skeptical at first back in March 2025, where I was initially seen in the ER. My experience in the ER wasn't the greatest, it was a busy night and it took a very long time to be seen & treated. Plus, the security(s) on duty at the time wasn't consistent. They allowed some patients to be accompanied by more than 1 person, I watched patients who came in after me getting a visitors pass for their spouse, partners, friends, family yet I was denied for hours until I had to demand to speak with a shift supervisor. I feel like the security was either playing favoritism or just lacked good judgement. Now, that I'm a returning patient. I've received great services in other departments & everyone has been professional and fair.

This is an extremely incompetent hospital. First, the misdiagnosis. I spent three weeks in pain and three doctors (THREE!) repeatedly gave me the same diagnosis--no one even thought of conducting blood tests. One didn't even know anything about the medication I was taking even though it is considered an essential medication by the CDC and the WHO. It wasn't until I finally got access to some kind of lab tests that they identified the cause was an infection. Then, the lack of follow-up. I was told my primary care doctor would get the results, but frequent messages showed that his office never received the results or any information about the diagnosis or treatment. The communication is also terrible. You can get a message and if the RN is in a good mood, he or she will reply otherwise they will make it as bureaucratic as possible for you to get a response. Third, the waiting times. There are never appointments, so plan to get sick ahead months in advance. I would rate this center as the worst I've experienced in my life. Everything is dysfunctional, follow-up is non existent, quality of care depends on whether the nurses are in a good mood. If there's anything like a purgatory, it's likely similar to this hospital.

UCI Hospital has one of the best doctors and surgeons in California. I had lower back surgery there that required me to stay for a week, and I was under the care of Dr. Hansen Bow, who is truly an amazing doctor and surgeon. His team was incredible—nonstop checking on me day and night, making sure I had the medicine I needed and that I was comfortable. I felt very well taken care of by him and his medical team. I also want to recognize Farah and Barenka, who were assistants, and Jacquelyn and Colby, who were nurses. All four went above and beyond in their care. Despite the heavy workload and long shifts, they treated me with kindness, professionalism, and compassion. What stood out most was how they managed to keep a smile on their face while doing some of the hardest work. People like them truly deserve recognition for their dedication. That said, I experienced serious issues with how the nursing staff and charge RN were managed. When I pressed the call button, I was first asked why I needed a nurse. While I understand this is meant to help assign tasks, it often resulted in delays. If an assistant wasn’t available, I would be left waiting 30 minutes or more, even though the RNs had fewer patients and were not as overloaded. This is unfair to both the assistants—who were stretched too thin—and to patients like me, who were left in pain and waiting for basic help. There was also one nurse in particular whose repeated behavior made my recovery harder. This was the same nurse who dismissed my complaint that the IV was painful and not working (insisting “it’s fine” until another shift confirmed it did need to be replaced), refused to properly report to the doctor that my medication was not effective and that I was experiencing severe headaches (simply saying “yes, they know,” without documenting or communicating anything), and repeatedly left me waiting after promising to return in “one minute” when I needed basic help, such as going to the bathroom. This was not just a single mistake but a pattern of ignoring patient needs and failing to follow through. Even the food service could be improved. Breakfast scheduled for 8 often arrived closer to 10. My wife stayed in a much larger hospital where meals were delivered within 10 minutes. Food also came missing key items—pancakes without syrup, oatmeal without sugar or raisins. These may seem minor, but when patients are in pain and exhausted, details matter. At the very least, staff should ask simple questions like whether a patient wants sugar with oatmeal before sending it out incomplete. To be clear, I do not want to blame all RNs, as I know many of them worked hard and played an important role in my care. My main concern is with management—the charge RN, who failed to properly manage the shift and allow the team to work together. Nurses should not be able to refuse parts of their job, dismiss patients’ concerns, or leave critical patients waiting in pain while assistants are overloaded. This hospital has excellent doctors and surgeons, And must be rated with five stars, but nursing leadership and patient services need serious improvement. Patients recovering from major surgery should not be left waiting like this. For a hospital with such a strong reputation, this experience was unacceptable and deserves immediate review at the management level

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Patricia Goungo the financial representative at UCI is absolutely wonderful! She’s been helping me with my Medi-Cal process and has made everything so much easier to understand. She’s incredibly nice, compassionate, and always takes the time to communicate and follow up. You can tell she genuinely cares about the people she helps. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her guidance. Highly recommend Patricia Goungo— she’s the best!

*AMAZING DOCTORS AND STAFF* I have had two separate hospital stays here. The first one I was rushed to the trauma center after being run over by a truck. The second just happened last week where I burned my hands in a small fire. The rooms are nice with large windows and good views. The nurses are checking on you all day and come immediately upon the press of a button. They made me feel cared for and important. I normally smoke cigarettes so they were able to give me nicotine gum. I appreciate all of their efforts to heal me. I really enjoyed getting to know all my different nurses (Tori). The main burn doctor is very intelligent and explained to me what they needed to do. This hospital also has a large kitchen with a big menu. There is a small boy in the burn unit who has been there for months. My heart goes out to him and his mother. He is so strong, and an inspiration to me. If you ever get burned this is the place to be. SHOUT OUT BURN UNIT 🙌♥️💪
