The croissants are actually pretty good at Superior Grocers. The reason I say "actually" is all their other pastry is so different qualitatively so one might not expect French croissants in the French style at a Mexican grocer where they also sell two other kinds of crescent pastries. Quite versatile for a grocer, and I can't think of another example anywhere off the top where such different styles and variety are on display. And they are $0.99 as of this writing, so quality per dollar goes far here in the croissant department! You do have to be careful not to pick up the wrong one because although they are different once you see them, they are similar enough to mistake if you're in a hurry. Also, they're not always available. I went at 10:30am and had a great one, maybe a 4.3. At 8am, and none were baked yet. At 2pm and the quality likely had dropped by that time of day so they were closer to a 2.5 or 3. At 9:30 one time and it was maybe a 3.5. Last time I went was April 5 2025, for reference. So it's hard to pin down the best time to go, but for a buck, it's worth the venture, and you'll probably do much better than a 3 (I'm a tough croissant judge). Maybe you can get some fruit and vegetables while you're at it, too.

I really do enjoy them and told my friends and family about them, though more predictable hours of availability would be appreciated, and I would also encourage trying things that could even improve them. I made a batch myself recently and appreciate how difficult and time-consuming it is. For reference, a 5 would be the best croissant in Paris. (One French bakery in LA was a 1 for me at 10am not too long ago.) In contrast to that one, if you ever want to check out FKN Bread in San Juan Capistrano by the Mission, it's incredible, at least the two times I went. Keep up the great work!

I love this place. The produce is always fresh and cheap. They also have a lot of things you wouldn't get anywhere else

Arnel is his name, not sure if he's the manager but he was very rude to his cashier and even me as a customer felt his anger and made me feel uncomfortable. Last time I come to this store

We’ve been coming to this location for years and we’ve never had an issue before. For some reason one of the staff members of the meat department just slams the door after every single interaction to the point that the glass shakes from the force. This isn’t the first time he’s done that to me or my mom and he only does that to us. At the end of the interaction he just threw the last bag of meat at us and walked away which was very rude. I stayed behind to see if I could talk to someone from the meat department and while I was waiting I saw that we were the only people he’s done that too. I didn’t get a name but he’s a young man with thick black glasses and every time we get him he always slams the door so hard I feel like it’ll break at some point.
